Character Information
Castiel is an Angel of the Lord, and one of Heaven's soldiers. He has acted in this capacity at least since Lucifer's fall, but has likely been around since God created the Earth.
During the events leading up to the Biblical apocalypse, Castiel is tasked with raising The Righteous Man, Dean Winchester, from Hell. After completing this undertaking, he's given the order to assist Dean in his tasks from Heaven. Unbeknownst to Castiel, it is in truth Heaven's duty to set the apocalypse into motion. When he learns this, he initially continues to follow orders, but after gradually becoming closer to Dean, Dean is able to convince him to rebel in order to save humanity.
After this, Castiel attempts to restore order in Heaven. He fails fantastically, and the fallout of his extremist actions follow him for the rest of the series.
By Season 11, as a result of a string of repeated failures, he's all but given up on himself. The last major action he takes is to allow Lucifer, one of the main antagonists of the 4th and 5th seasons, to possess his body. He believes that Lucifer can do more to help their current situation than he could.

Appearance
Castiel's vessel of choice is a white male in his mid-thirties, formerly belonging to one Jimmy Novak. His dark hair is presented in a short cut with the bangs combed up. His skin tone is light, but has a tendency to take on a noticeable tan. He has a round, chiseled, pleasant face, bearing a permanent five-o-clock shadow, heavy eyelids, and noticeable crows feet beneath his eyes, which gives him the perpetually tired look of a harried white collar worker.
UPDATE: JULY 2025
Ever since Castiel's experience with his hitchhiker, he retains white, plasticy patches on his skull in a ring around his head, mostly localized on the right side. He can no longer grow hair there, and experiences significant hair loss in the vicinity. Because his hair falls over the patches, they are hard to see, except when sitting close on his right side.

Skills & Abilities
Angels are one of the most powerful supernatural beings, and inhuman in every sense. They do not possess souls, and their true forms are fatal to look upon by both monsters and mortals. Castiel's vessel, as previously mentioned, did not originally belong to him, and the exact appearance of Castiel's true form is unknown.
When inhabiting his vessel, Castiel possesses superior physical strength, superior senses, invulnerability to most physical damage, functional immortality, telepathy, telekinesis, the ability for mental manipulation, mind reading, and the ability to smite living creatures with holy white light, among a whole host of others skills. (Though for Diadem, most of his info-modding abilities have been nerfted and will fail if he uses them.) Castiel is also functionally immune to telepathy, as his mind is nothing like a human's. Telepaths, when reading him, will only perceive "colors".
Castiel is also experienced in hand-to-hand combat, which is his preferred fighting style, and possesses incredible knowledge that spans choice moments of the Earth's long history and the very mechanics of the universe.
